Eric Jennings

Eric Thomas Jennings was born in 1922 in Birmingham to Thomas and Florence (nee Baddeley) Jennings. They lived in Acocks Green Birmingham. Family members understand that when he enlisted, he changed his age to 20 years of age.

His great nephew Phil Monteith wrote to us in October 2011:

“I’ve attached the only picture we have of him in uniform, not sure of the date, but it was taken at his home. Also attached is a picture of his grave which confirms the date of his death (CWGC have got it wrong!)

Many years ago when my grandmother (Eric’s sister) was still alive, my mother and us kids went to Tunisia for a holiday, hired a car and travelled up to Medjez-El-Bab to visit his grave and take a picture because Nan claimed she hadn’t got one, but we found these pictures after she passed in 2001.

What was really spooky (I was about 12 or 13 at the time), was when we walked into the cemetery and without looking walked straight to his grave ! I wished I could have met him. Since then I have always had this urge to find out more and only now have got round to do anything about it.”
