The Freedom for Italy network

Welcome to the Freedom for Italy network, an international and non-profit initiative, that is developing new ways of memorialising events in Italy in 1943-45.

Freedom for Italy is designed by Italy, for Italy and is about Italy at a turning point in world history.

The network’s activities include:

  • Conferences including the Sicily Peace, Security & Prosperity Conference held in Catania in July 2023 and The Liberation of Rome Conference held in Anzio on 31 May-1 June to mark the 80th anniversary of the end of the occupation of Italy’s capital. The event was addressed by 40 speakers and attended by 150 delegates from Italy, France, Germany, Poland, South Africa, the UK and the US. The conference was supported by Assoknowledge, the trade association for Italian knowledge and technology firms.
  • The Thank You Dear Friends Schools Letter-writing initiative that encourages young Italians to find our more about their peers who died in Italy in 1943-45.
  • This Week in the Italian Campaign Youtube shows about the Italian campaign broadcast weekly to cover events in the campaign chronologically.
  • Publications including new guidebooks about the campaign.
  • A Monte Cassino to Rome peace walk which will pass through Anzio beginning on Palm Sunday 13 April and ending in Rome around 1 May to mark the end of the war in Italy in 1945.
  • Connecting Italian museums with an interest in the Second World War with their international counterparts.
  • Building productive collaboration between Italian companies and businesses across the world.
